Microsoft has announced that sales of on-premises versions of their SMB ERP solutions, including Dynamics GP (Great Plains) and Dynamics 365 Business Central on-prem, will conclude in October 2025.
As business technology has evolved, most businesses are adopting cloud-based solutions like Dynamics 365 Business Central, which offers more flexibility, scalability, and security than on-prem counterparts.
Microsoft Ending Dynamics GP Sales effectively puts an end date to any new sales of Dynamics GP. However, current GP users will still be able to add users and licenses. If your business is solely built on selling, implementing, and supporting GP, it is imperative that you expand your solutions and services beyond on-prem solutions.
Stratos Cloud Alliance helps Microsoft partners introduce new offerings and services to build their practice and deliver both an on-prem and cloud strategy for customers. As a member of the Alliance, you’ll have the fast track to building a successful Business Central practice. With access to training materials for your consultants and sales teams, partners are able to ramp up their resources. Stratos also provides hands-on sales support and guidance, and consultants to help move projects forward as needed.
Stratos not only provides support for Dynamics 365 Business Central, but the entire Microsoft solution stack including Microsoft 365, D365 Customer Engagement, Power Platform, Azure, and more.
No official announcement has been made regarding sunsetting the Dynamics GP product.
Mainstream support for Dynamics GP 2018 and 2018 R2 ended on January 10, 2023. Extended support ends on 1/11/2028. We recommend discussing upgrade options with your clients on these versions of the product. For those that wish to stay on Dynamics GP, they should upgrade to the Modern Lifecycle version to continue to receive support and updates to the software. For those moving to Modern Lifecycle, they should consider transitioning GP to a hosted environment such as Azure. This ensures regular back-ups, enhanced security, and anywhere, anytime access.
For those clients that are looking to upgrade to a more modern ERP solution, Microsoft has made the transition to Business Central as easy as possible. Dynamics GP data can be migrated to Business Central. Stratos provides a tool that partners can use to determine the level of effort required to transition data from GP to Business Central. This is a free service offered for Stratos Cloud Alliance members.
